Riccobono's Panola Street Cafe

You thought we disappeared again, didn't you?
Wrong.
KM moved last week and there just wasn't enough time to cook. There. Is. Never. Enough. Time. (Is that joke old yet? I hope so.)

Riccobono's is in Kerry's new 'hood so we thought we would check it out for Saturday breakfast. Some people say good things about Riccobono's. We don't, necessarily.
It's not that it's terrible... it's just not really good. Everything we had tasted like the sum of its ingredients... nothing more, nothing less. Kerry said the coffee was good, though, if you're into that sort of thing.
Here is the food stuffs -
Kerry had the Eggs Benedict. It looked like this and I can't tell you what it tasted like, because I don't eat things with Hollandaise Sauce, because it give me nightmares. Especially with those two beady olive eyes.

I had the burrito special. Here is a funny story about burritos. One time when my sister was a teenager, she babysat a kid whose father had told him that Mexican people only ate burritos. Three burritos a day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. What a stereotype, huh?

Well, my breakfast burrito had eggs in it, and peppers and cheese and probably onions and tomatoes I would guess... and it was vastly inferior to the one I had at Huevos a few weeks back. It wasn't as good as my lunch or dinner burrito that day either.
So there you go. Some pictures of food and a story about racist children!

Mid-city? MID CITY?
Is there really anything to do if you live in Mid-City other than tell people how cool you are for living in the American Can Apartments?
My Mid-City experiences are really limited to grocery shopping at Rouses, walking at City Park, and a few treks to Mid-City Bulldog. Oh and going to Clever. Oh... and Pandora. Crap.
Either way, you know know what else Mid-City has going for it? Huevos. Now other New Orleans Food blogs with "larger readerships" and "a consistent posting schedule" have had the best things to say about Huevos. Oh and I just realized they posted a few days ago about Huevos... sorry fellas.
We have nice things to say too. We went the day after the water outage and had a pretty good breakfast with some bottled water on the side.
Kerry had the Huevos Rancheros. Its the charred tomato salsa that really makes it. She had her eggs over medium and I'm not sure what that means but they looked pretty gooey! Anything that comes with tortillas to wrap it in is normally pretty good.
I don't even like to do the work for wrapping things in tortillas myself so I have my meals pre-wrapped. I went with the blue jay special. Egg, cheese, chorizo, I think probably some salsa too - I don't remember. It was great. Filling but not too filling. And it came with a cup of coffe and it was all only $1.82. Or maybe it was $6. I don't really remember, but it was cheap, and good, and they gave me a card, and when I eat 10 of them I get the 11th free!
When I told Kerry that she said, "Who would ever order 10 specials, that's a ton of food."
That made me laugh!

Elizabeth's

I had a friend drive through on her way back to Mobile from Louis Armstrong. She wanted brunch so we took her to Elizabeth's on Gallier over in the Marigny. We had to drive further than expected but I'd say it was worth it.
We got there at 11 on Sunday so they sent us to an upstairs bar to wait. Other was pretty lively and we had a Mimosa.
We sat and had we all split a plate of the praline bacon. Here was my piece. The bacon alone was worth the drive.
Kerry had the Red Neck Eggs. Fried Green Tomatoes and poached eggs with grits. It looked pretty good. I'm not a big poached eggs guy but she seemed to like it.
I had the Carolina Shrimp and Grits. They were pretty good too and came with a big biscuit. And I just remembered that I have the left overs in my fridge so I'm going to go eat them. Good reasonably priced brunch stop though.

Chocolate Chip Breakfast in Atlanta

We are at my parents' house in Lawrenceville, Georgia for a few days. So the next few posts will be either be of Atlanta restaurants or my mother's kitchen. This is the second kind. You can see her red cabinets in the background. When I lived here they were white.
I whipped up some Betty Crocker Chocolate Chip Muffins for breakfast. Just add water! I found some strawberries in the refrigerator so we did that too.
They were pretty good for just adding water. I forgot to take a picture of the finished product but I have a feeling you get the general idea.

Shrove Tuesday Blueberry Pancakes

So what do you know about Mardi Gras and Shrove Tuesday?
Well Wikipedia says that Shrove Tuesday is "widely associated with the eating of foods such as pancakes, and often known simply as Pancake Day, originally because these used up ingredients such as fat and eggs, the consumption of which was traditionally restricted during Lent."
So we made them. We cooked them like silver dollars...
And with blueberries that we threw in one by one from far distances...

Pre Exam Breakfast at Blue Plate Cafe

We had an accounting exam this afternoon. Kerry also had a meeting this morning with the people that shes doing some part time marketing work with. Since we figured we had done a completely reasonable amount of studying we figured it was a good time to try out a new breakfast place we found using Urban Spoon. We went to Blue Plate Cafe in the Lower Garden District down on Prytania.

It was a cool little restaurant, not quite a greasy spoon but definitely a hole in the wall place. But it had good music and good food. Better than that the waitress wished us luck on your test and asked us if we were regulars. I think there is a good chance we will be.

Kerry had the "Breakshetta." It took me about 15 min to get the joke but it was French bread toast topped with eggs and a tomato basil relish. It came with a breakfast salad and was really good. She had some orange juice to drink with it and some coffee.

I had the Breakfast Burrito. It was served with black beans and salsa. It was pretty standard but it was good and the waitress suggested it and its kinda my thing to order what they suggest. I had chocolate milk with it. For some reason the waitress had me sutir it myself.
Blue Plate Cafe was a really good start to the day. It was also the first time Urban Spoon lived up to the hype.

Blueberry Muffin Morning

Blueberry muffins for breakfast. Betty Crocker! Just add water!
I like them with butter and a Diet Coke.
I'm not sure what else there is to say about them except that there were 6 of them and they were served warm.
Oh and I ate enough (3) to not be hungry for lunch and now I can wait until I get a break at four today to get a snack at the LBC (student center). So my next post will most likely include some sort of over-priced, pre-made, plastic-wrapped... well something.
The muffins were really good though.
